The night cityscape : Mumbai

It has been close to 4 months that I have returned to Mumbai, and most of the posts that have gone up since then, have something or the other related to the tall buildings. This post has more of the same, except there is one major difference today. The shots here, have been taken at NIGHT!

Mumbai Cityscape at night

I had been planning for a view from up top for quite a while now, and this gave me a satisfaction of sorts! Not that am totally happy with it, but now, you, my dear reader know what to expect, as I take my camera along, soon.

Mumbai Cityscape at night, Bandra Worli Sealink

Come to think of it, now, in Mumbai, instead of saying that the elements of nature are air, water, earth and fire, it should be air, water, fire and concrete! Just look at the buildings that have come up in the last few years!

Mumbai Cityscape at night, Freeway

For the ones who are uninitiated and are new to Mumbai, this ribbon here is the Freeway as it is called, which is basically a high speed motorway starting near Chembur, all the way till CST. The ride on the bridge is quite interesting, doesn’t beat the Sea Link though!

These shots have been taken using my Lenovo K6 Power. It boasts a 13MP camera and some smart modes. Then the photos have been tweaked on Snapseed. The results, are kinda interesting, for they give an idea of what can be achieved with the camera.

Keep an eye out for the HD version post, soon.

Cheers!!

Mumbai : Clouds and Rain

Hi there all,

As it must be evident by the sheer number of posts that I manage to post, I do not get a lot of time to pull out the camera and go shooting. Add to that the famed monsoons of Mumbai. Days of incessant rain, followed by a hot and humid sunny day, and then suddenly, out of no where, rain again, transient weather I say! Clothes damp and soggy, fungus just waiting to grow anywhere they can, it is difficult.

Not to be disheartened and following the concept of the best camera is the one you have on you, I turn to using the Lenovo K6 Power to shoot. Once better climates prevail, my beloved NikonD3100 shall come back in action.

Until the next post!

Cheers!!

TTL: Tikona Fort

They say, the forts around Pune, look amazing during the rains. Heard this so many times, and have been enticed by so many photos, that finally, we gave in. We loaded us on a couple of bikes, and went on our day trip to the Tikona Fort, morning, 7 o’ clock on a Saturday. This is the account of our trip. There may not be photos of the fort in here, rather, there are ones of what you can see from the fort.

Keeping true to Murphy’s Laws and the weather reports, we lost our ways a couple of times, splashed into huge puddles of water and finally made it to the hill and found it engulfed in fog.

We caught our breath for a minute and took in the amazing view, though limited view from the base of the fort.

Post maneuvering through some muddy and rocky paths, we reached a spot, from where the path ahead was this…

IMG_20160731_111943

For the sake of railings, there was a co-axial cable cut and bolted into the hill face, and we had to climb on the rocks, which were at least a foot high and slippery. The gradient felt close to 60 degrees. Well,  it was just the beginning though. Some time into the climb, things became more slippery, and agreeably, scary too.

It was the views that kept us going and pushing to reach the top.

We got the view of the greenery that had been so much referred to, and also realized that after all, monsoon may not be the best time to come to this place. Not because of the rain, but because the clouds obstruct the visibility.

This is a nice place to be for a day outing. As we climbed down, we saw tiny kids and even toddlers climbing up the trail, so it is not very technical climb or a difficult one as such. One must always exercise a certain amount of caution though.

The location ought to be an amazing one for night time photography and star gazing. The peak of the climb experiences quite strong winds so the ones venturing up should take the necessary precautions.

While climbing down, some caution had to be maintained as the place had become very slippery and narrow approaches forced us to move in a single file.

On the whole, the trip was a nice way to unwind and to get some of the much needed fresh air.

Cheers!!

Bliss

What is bliss, if not the absolute happiness that you feel when you gaze at the rising sun and spread out your arms in the wind to welcome the warmth? Or gaze at the sea shore and see the clouds part, just a tiny bit to let the sun’s rays shine?

Glimpses of Mumbai: Bandra – Worli Sealink

So, my quest of shooting the icons of Mumbai continues in this post too. In the earlier posts, the Tulsi Pipe road, Haji Ali Dargah, Chor Bazaar and the Queen’s Necklace have been covered. This time, it is the ₹1600 crore worth engineering marvel, the Bandra- Worli Sealink. The shots have been shot from the Bandra Fort, in company of Dipanwita, and the other shots are from the Dadar beach, in company of Tanisha, both amazing photographers in their own rights.
I was asked recently by a friend, what I do in my spare time?Well, I post process my photos! 🙂

Chasing the sun

There are some people out there who manage to greet the sun often, not me though. I wake up by the first rays of the sun, not before it though. So, when the plan to go greet the sun came up, it was too good to be passed over.

Before I tell you where I went to catch the sunrise, let me share some photos.

I can put a safe bet that a lot of you think that these have been shot at a hill station. Instead, the location is about 30 kms away from Pune. These shots are from the Singhagadh fort.
Located at the hill top at an altitude of about 1400mts above sea level, this served as a fort for the Maratha rulers. Now its a popular spot for weekend trips. Light treks and amazing natural beauty. Have a look at the rest.

TTL: Delhi II

Day 1 ended on a sad note, that I cracked my phone. But, Day 2 was happier, because, my replacement phone would reach me in some time. With a happy thought in heart, we left in the morning for Red Fort and Jama Masjid and other places like Lotus Temple and all. Except, it was Monday and all the monuments were closed. A little disheartened, we went directly to the Jama Masjid, which was open, thankfully.

Post Jama Masjid tour, we returned to the hostel, to find my phone waiting there already. Happy, the next outing was to the corridors of powers of the Indian govt. namely the Parliament complex and India Gate.

The India Gate has special place in the Indian hearts, as it houses the tomb of the unknown soldier and pays respect to all those who have been lost in battle. The eternal flame, Amar Jawan Jyoti can be seen blazing.

With this, my Delhi trip came to an end. Next stop being Jaipur, Rajasthan.

Cheers!!

TTL: North East India, Beginning!

Dear all,

Allow me to take you on a virtual tour towards the North Eastern part of India, specifically to parts of Shillong and Cherapunji in Meghalaya and Kaziranga, Pobitora and Suwalkuchi in Assam.

But, lets begin at the Netaji Shubhas Chandra International Airport (CCU). We reached here at around 2330h, our flight was 1040h, next day. With more than ample time, we camped in the lounge. I didnt manage to sleep, instead, I got fascinated by the empty chairs!

DSC_3856-2

Past the security check, the wait was over quick, and we were airborne. The flight was a short one, it felt like we climbed, the hostess gave the refreshments, and we landed.

With this, we landed at the Lokpriya Gopinath Bordoloi International Airport (GAU), Guwahati.

From here, we loaded up on Toyota Innova, and were on our way towards Shillong, Meghalaya. Approximate time to get there, 5 hours.

Coming up, soon! Follow the series 🙂

Cheers!!
