Dry Ice!

Hi there all. It has been quite sometime since the last post, I ll blame the hectic work schedules and in some effect, laziness for the same.
Anyway, today we discuss, Dry Ice. Frozen Carbon Dioxide, when made into pellets to be used for cooling duty, is known as Dry Ice.

Dry Ice is of interest to us photographers since it produces thick smoke, when it comes in contact with water.

And the best bit, the smoke is cold, and heavier than air, so it flows!

This gives the opportunity to use the flowing smoke creatively. It can be used to provide artificial smoke in photos, to be used to as a background or otherwise.

So, there you have it, the secret to thick billowing smoke in the photos. Have fun it. Be careful though, it is carbon dioxide, so, preferably do not inhale a lot of it, and experiment in an open space.

Cheers!!

Glimpses of Mumbai – 200 M above earth – 2

It has been quite some time that I haven’t posted the photos. Here I am, back with the promised photos.

Its easy to see miles after miles into the city from the vantage point, atop a 51 storied building. Once you get there, you can see, that yes, the city is growing, rising skywards, and that that the slums are diminishing by the hour. The slum dwellers are shifted to newly constructed  slum rehab towers and on the hence vacant land, come up skyscrapers. I guess now this is how we shall define development, the phase of construction, when slums are converted to high rise towers. Squalor and luxury, opposites together, C’est la vie.

Proof of Concept!

So my dearest cousin showed me a photo. It looked awesome and had clever use of photo editing tools too. She said, “Bro, how is this done? Can you too do it?”
I got the concept all right, but was a little skeptical. Still, no harm in giving it a shot! A little tweaking and a few repeats down, I got the proof of concept shot pretty clear.

This one, is for my dear cousin 🙂

Toxic

Hi there all,

Of the numerous requests I receive to make a photo in a certain way, few of them materialize in the way we want it to be. Here is one of the rare cases, when things went favorably. A little less windy, and results would have been marvelous.

Parul, I hope breath is illustrated here, though toxic in nature  🙂

As the name of the post suggests, cigarette smoking is toxic, and it will cause health issues for anyone who inhales the smoke, active or passive. So, kindly refrain from smoking in company of non smokers, let them live, and yeah, quitting helps too!

The filament first

Hey there! It was quite some time that I was not up to any creative shots! So today I decided that lets open up a bulb! Watched a few videos of how to safely open up the bulbs on the net, and off I went to execute my experiments.

The following shots are from today’s experiment.

The following shots are very close to my heart, as I pride myself on being able to time correctly to take the shots in the very limited time that I got to shoot the burning filament, with a very modest Nikon D3100. Modest in the sense that it does 3 fps on the continuous burst mode, and often the decisive moments are lost right between the frames.

But, if you time it right, you have 3 frames per second, you ll need only 1 frame to be correct for that awesome shot. I believe, I found mine 🙂

The next photo is basically a filament on another. It does look a bit weird, I agree, but, it does the job just fine, and I am not complaining 🙂

Stay hooked because in the next post, I do something of the shells too! 🙂

Till then,

Smokes I

Hi there!!
Often we come across varied photos of smoke and are simply awestruck at their beauty and randomness. They have weird shapes, but are very fluidic in nature and have a sense of tranquility in them. And sometimes, some appear to be simply supernatural. Here are some of my spoils.
In this post am putting up the solo smoke photos. These have been achieved from incense sticks, mainly!
The black background and a light to the smoke makes the whole thing stand out better.
Check the cheap way on the DIY page here:

Experiment is the key, and go on and shoot!

I know, some of you, my dear readers, might be pondering, as to what and why is there so much of noise and why has something not been done about them. The thing is, the noise creeps in when you try balancing a moderate ISO, around 800 and 1600 here along with the absence of the traditional way to light the smoke up. Check out the link in the beginning of the page to find out the simpler and cheaper way to the lighting. The noise is the trade off.
Let me know about your views!

Winter Delights!

Hi there..

For someone who stays in a mostly tropical country, winter is a fun season! I personally enjoy the chilly weather, the breath coming out as smoke, the smokes lingering near you, hot tea, dried leaves, color riot all around…and puppies!! I find winter to be kinda romantic too!! :p

Check the pics, lemme know if you liked them!
